Nanorobot ready to fight cancer
Stockholm: Scientists in Sweden have developed a nano-robot capable of killing cancer cells.
The nano-robot developed at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden was tested on mice. The robot’s weapon is hidden in a nanostructure and is exposed only to the tumor’s microenvironment, while the device does not harm healthy cells.
A group of researchers from Karolinska Institutet had previously created structures that could align death receptors on the surface of cells, leading to cell death.
These templates contain six peptides (chains of amino acids) linked in a hexagonal pattern.
Professor Jorn Hogberg, the head of the research, said that this six-sided nanopattern of peptides takes the form of a highly lethal weapon. If you use it as medicine, it will start killing cells indiscriminately in the body, which is not a good thing. To deal with this problem, scientists have hidden a nanostructure made of DNA in this weapon.
