Orlando: The results of a recent study suggest that drinking more than three cups of coffee a day causes faster cognitive decline over time.
The investigators examined the effects of coffee and tea on intelligence including measures of abstract reasoning, thought patterns and logical thinking scales.
There’s an old adage that too much of anything is good, says Kelsey R. Sewell, PhD, of Advent Health Research Institute, Orlando. This is true. Everything has to be balanced, so moderate coffee consumption is fine but too much is harmful.
The results of the study were presented at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference (AAIC) 2024.
The results also found that if either coffee or tea is consumed in moderation, evidence from observational and epidemiologic studies indicates that both coffee and tea consumption may reduce the risk of stroke, heart disease, cancer, diabetes and Has beneficial effects on Parkinson’s disease.
